Scotland subsequently entered into a political union with the Kingdom of England on 1 May 1707 to create the new Kingdom of Great Britain and it is made up of more than 790 islands.
The capital of this country is Edinburgh, however the largest city is Glasgow and the great majority of the population is Christian.
The area of this country is of 77, 933 km 2 and Scottish people speak English and also Gaelic.
Life expectancy for those born in Scotland between 2012 and 2014 is 77.1 years for males and 81.1 years for females.
The men of Scotland wear a skirt called kilt and each family or clan has its own tartan. Scottish whisky is very famous world wide because of its strong taste and they have also bagpipes which is the national musical instrument that led Scottish soldiers into battle.
In literature they have Robert Louis Balfour Stevenson who was a Scottish novelist, poet, essayist, and travel writer. Among his most famous works we find –Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde
